Buenos Aires is an amazing city and is unlike any other. I never think it’s fair to say it is the “Paris of South America,” because in my opinion it’s far more dynamic, young and creative than Paris, and really has its own strong personality. If you’ve never had the chance to visit Buenos Aires, you must put it at the top of your list since it is such a great city, and can compete with any big city in world with its offerings. Here are our top reasons, in no particular order, you must visit Buenos Aires.
Culture – Porteños are very educated and love going to the theatre, musical and dance performances, gallery events and museums and read literature and poetry. Any day of the week there are activities going on, often times free or subsidized by the government. Buenos Aires also has countless cultural festivals each year, and the average person is very passionate about the arts.
Walkability – Visitors to Buenos Aires always comment on how unique the city is in its walkability. Unlike many big Latin American cities, the city is great to explore on foot, is filled with sidewalk cafes and restaurants, and all streets are lined with leafy trees. Another plus are the ample green spaces, allowing you to escape the quilombo (chaos) of so many people!
Architecture – While you are walking around Buenos Aires it’s hard to not appreciate the beautiful mix of historical and modern architecture. Even though Buenos Aires is a huge metropolis, the scale of the buildings is small, making it feel more neighborhoody, approachable and personal.
Nightlife – Buenos Aires has incredible nightlife. Any ranking will put the city in the top 5 in the World for nightlife. It is possible to go out 7 nights a week, and the variety of offerings is very wide. Especially in Palermo, great bars are around every corner, and the city’s dance clubs, called boliches, are legendary.
Dining – Buenos Aires is a great city for dining. People are very passionate about good food and wine, with evidence of this being that most Argentines spend their Sunday’s barbequing and feasting on steak and red wine. Our food tours specialize in taking you to super authentic local parrillas and restaurants, but the city also has great Italian and Spanish food, and has exploded in recent years with young chefs cooking innovative cuisine.
People watching – Something that I love about Buenos Aires is that people feel very free to do what they want and stick out, and you constantly see things that make you laugh, surprise you and are that are unique. A must in Buenos Aires is walking around and visiting some of the beautiful old cafes to do some serious people watching.
