A bottle of a great Argentine wine makes a good gift or souvenir to bring home. A common questions we get from clients on our food tour here in Buenos Aires is where they can purchase a few bottles to take home and share with friends and family while telling them all about eating the wonderful steak at a Buenos Aires parrilla! Here are some of our favorite wine shops in the city:
Pain et Vin – Located on a beautiful street in Palermo Soho, Pain et Vin combines the passions of the husband/wife team that opened it. The shop is combination of a bakery with some of the best bread in the city, and a wine shop/bar. The selection of wines is excellent and sommelier Eleonora speaks perfect English and is great at selecting wines for your tastes. They can also organize wine tastings at request.
Lo de Joaquin Alberdi – Conveniently located in Palermo Soho, this wine shop has a great selection of local wines, with an especially good collection of higher end wines. Something that sets Alberdi apart from other shops is the high level of customer service and their attention to storing their wines in proper conditions. This shop also regularly hosts wine tastings.
Autre Monde – This store is a combination of a wine shop and a bookstore. The owner, Victor, is very welcoming and is happy to help you pick a bottle based on your preferences. The shop focuses on offering hard to find boutique wines that you will not find widely exported. Periodically they also offer wine tastings with the tasting fee able to be used towards bottle purchases.
Siete Spirits – Located on a quiet cobblestoned street in Palermo Hollywood, Siete Spirits offers a small, but fantastic selection of Argentine wines. The owner is a sommelier and handpicks each wine they offer. If you want to try one of the wines, they also pick all of the offerings on the wine list of the cute wine bar next door, Bar du Marche.
Terroir – Terroir is located in a restored home in Palermo Chico, and is the highest end wine shop in Buenos Aires. The shop is slightly intimidating, but sells all of the highest rated wines of Argentina as well as offers wine tastings by appointment. Only go if you are looking for, and willing to pay for, high end wines.
