Argentina is a country made up of immigrants, largely from Italy and Spain. Almost the instant you get off your plane you will notice this in the appearance and actions of Argentines. This cultural heritage is heavily reflected in the cuisine of Argentina. Besides being able to get one of the best steaks in the world here, there is great pasta, pizza, tapas, and other European dishes. Buenos Aires is lucky to have some wonderful Italian restaurants that will make you think you’re in Italy, and not Latin America! Here are some our favorite picks for Italian restaurants in Buenos Aires:
Cucina Paradiso – A tiny lunchtime café in Palermo Hollywood, this restaurant doubles as an Italian food market making it one of the few places in Buenos Aires you can get imported Italian foods. It feels about as authentic as you can get, with everything up the waiters being from Italy! The menu is simple, with only 4-5 pasta options and a few antipasto dishes. Even though it is a little bit expensive, they fact that they use such high quality ingredients make it well worth the price. Read a more extensive review on The Lost Asian.
Doppio Zero – Located in Las Cañitas, one of the areas we do our Buenos Aires food tours, Doppio Zero offers great Italian food and service. Most everything is made from scratch, and some of our favorite dishes offered are the homemade pastas, fish of the day, and the ossobuco.
Filo – A great option if you are staying near Plaza San Martin or Recoleta, Filo is popular for both lunch and dinner. All of the pasta options we have tried are great, and their pizzas are some of the best in the city.
La Mamma Rosa – Old-school Argentine Italian style food, this Villa Crespo landmark is always packed. They have an extensive menu including steak, but pasta is what it is known for. The people watching here is outstanding, and if there is a long wait you can head across the street to La Cave de Jufre, one of the best wine bars in Buenos Aires.
Mauro.it – Off the tourist route, this tiny simple Belgrano restaurant is a favorite among BA Italian food lovers. The atmosphere is simple, but very homey and service is friendly. Pastas are amazing and reasonably priced.
Siamo nel Forno – If you’re craving pizza and Argentine style pizza isn’t your thing, head to Siamo nel Forno in Palermo Hollywood. This pizzeria specializes in thin crust pizzas cooked in their wood-burning oven. Toppings are simple but high quality.
